Replica of the VX gas balls from the movie "The Rock"
The VX gas canister was built as a direct extension to the Rapier missile launcher project, turning spare missiles into a second, higher-tension game mechanic rather than standalone props. Inspired by the film The Rock, the goal was to recreate the emotional weight of disarming or arming a missile under pressure, without relying on fragile film accuracy or unsafe materials.
Two missiles were adapted with removable threaded nose cones, allowing players to access a sealed VX canister housed inside. The canister itself contains four internal strings of green “VX” baubles, enclosed within a clear acrylic tube to survive field use while preserving the instantly recognisable look of the film prop. Even outside the missile system, players immediately identified what it was without explanation.
In play, the prop deliberately changes player behaviour. Unlike rugged props designed to absorb abuse, this one looks delicate, dangerous, and final. Players slow down, communicate, and handle it with extreme care. Dropping it is treated as catastrophic failure, reinforcing tension and respect.
A simple illuminated arming switch adds a clear, physical interaction without loose parts or complex electronics. The result is a prop that creates suspense through restraint, turning a familiar movie moment into a memorable, high-stakes gameplay experience.
