About

A peek behind the solder smoke and laser dust. This is the story of Harry Badger

I’m a maker who’s been building props, gadgets, and creative projects for over thirty years. What started with cardboard, hot glue, and salvaged electronics slowly evolved into 3D printing, laser cutting, and micro-electronics. Whether it's functional things, cool things, or problem-solving things, that nobody asked for, but seemed like a good idea at the time, the process of turning those ideas into a reality has been the most rewarding part of the journey.

HarryBadger.com is my creative outlet and workshop-in-public. This site shares projects, build notes, experiments, and the occasional disaster. You'll find project, articles, designs, engineering hacks, digital downloads, and things I’ve made that sometimes even work. I use it to document and share ideas, but also to connect with other makers, doers, and tinkerers. If you're into hands-on creativity, you’ll probably feel right at home here.

Why I Make

I make things because it’s fun

I love cool gadgets, props, and anything with blinking lights or hidden functions. When I see something in a film or game, my first thought is usually “I want one”, and my second is “I’ll build it.” Making stuff is part curiosity, part compulsion, and always ridiculously satisfying.

People kept asking me to build stuff

Over time I got a reputation: “ask Badger, he can probably make it.” I’ve built everything from Warhammer terrain to custom airsoft props, interactive puzzle boxes, and problem-solvers like a GoPro mount for a baseball cap. If there’s a need, I’ll find a way to make it work.

Big or small, the challenge is the reward

Whether it's a loud effect, a game mechanic, or a neat design solution, I enjoy the process of figuring things out. No two builds are the same, and I like it that way. Sometimes I aim for realism, sometimes for reaction, but always for something that gets a “Wow, that's so cool Badger!”

Turning passion into a business

What started as a hobby has turned into something bigger. I still love making for the sake of it, but now I’m starting to build stuff people actually want to buy. It’s about valuing the time, the tools, and the skill that goes into every piece. Turning creative energy into something that earns its keep.

The Journey

  • 1989

    The Maker Journey Begins

    First build

Built a Star Trek Borg costume from scrap electronics, salvaged plastic, and way too much hot glue.

  • 1997

    Tinkering Phase

    Learning by doing

Spent years hacking together props, costumes, and devices using whatever I could find, improving skills one failed project at a time. I learned early on that making anything is good fun.

  • 2009

    Breakthrough

    Let's Print

After years of trial-and-error making, I discovered desktop 3D printing and started building parts, tools, and prototypes from the spare bedroom.

  • 2017

    Commissions

    Live action builds

What started as personal builds led to commissions for interactive props used in Airsoft and Live Action Role Play (LARP) events. This fueled full-on Halloween cosplay runs.

  • 2021

    Halloween

    Cosplay builds

Built a full set of costumes for Halloween, including Ghostbusters, Aliens, Predator, and Terminator.

  • 2024

    Shop

    Online launch

After building costumes and props for fun and friends, I took the leap and launched my online shop in 2024 to sell custom props, laser-cut art, and one-off creations.

Values

Believe

Always have a can-do attitude. I build most of my projects in a small spare room on the first floor. No garden. No workshop. Just basic tools, a cluttered desk, and a lot of persistence and curiosity.

Enjoy the Build

Have fun. Be bold. Try ideas that might not work. At the end of a project, take a moment to reflect, laugh at the mistakes, and admire the weird and wonderful thing you've somehow managed to finish anyway.

Be happy

I’ve never built anything I didn’t want to. That would feel like work. I build because it’s fun, because it challenges me, and because every project teaches me something new that keeps me coming back.

Things to Do

Take a look at my projects and get inspired. Laser-cut art, custom props, and useful things and other cool stuff.

Support future builds, burnt fingers, and ridiculous ideas that occasionally turn into working prototypes.
